Congress: Bills and contact info of our Senators and Members of Congress  (WA districts 1 & 2)

                                                 TEXT BY BILL

S. 200, for Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray

S. 200   Restricting the First Use of Nuclear Weapons Act 2017:  Require Congressional  approval  before the president may launch a first strike using nuclear weapons.    Introduced  by Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts.  Please cosponsor and publicly support this bill, which is the same as HR. 669.
Why?  No single person, especially not Trump, should have the power to single-handedly destroy the world, which is exactly what could result from a first launch of nuclear weapons.  Just one missile could start a cascade of retaliation, leading to nuclear holocaust.  We have been accustomed to trust our presidents to understand the consequences of such actions, and behave rationally.  We cannot do so any more.

HR. 669,  for Representative Rick Larsen & Susan DelBene

HR.669  Restricting First Use of Nuclear Weapons Act 2017:  Require Congressional approval before the president  may launch a first strike using any nuclear weapons.  Introduced  by Representative Ted Lieu of California.  Please cosponsor, as did Pramila Jayapal and Denny Heck, and publicly support this bill.
Why?  Same reason as for S.200, we can not trust Trump to act rationally, and the danger of accidental or impulsive initiation of nuclear war is too great to ignore.

HR. 5434, for Rick Larsen & Susan DelBene
To prohibit the introduction of US Armed Forces into hostilities in North Korea without a declaration of War.
Introduced by Representative Ro Khanna of California.   Please join Pramila Jayapal, and  cosponsor and publicly support this bill.  Why?   There really is no military option available, any invasion or conventional attack on North Korea will inevitably cause the destruction of the whole Korean peninsula, killing millions of people there, and could easily spread to Japan and beyond.  We cannot allow Trump to blunder into such a disaster.   Thoughtful diplomacy is the only possible solution, and if Trump can’t do it, we must at least prevent him from starting an another unwinnable war, that could easily go nuclear.

S. 2047, for Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell,
Preventing Preemptive War in North Korea Act.
Introduced by Senator Chris Murphy of Conneticutt.  Companion bill to HR. 3847, above, with same reasons, because there is no real military option in North Korea that would not escalate out of control.  Diplomacy must be pursued seriously.

2 more for Rick Larsen & Susan DelBene

HR. 3853  To provide for nuclear weapons abolition and conversion of nuclear materials to peaceful purposes.   Introduced by Representative Eleanor Holmes-Norton of DC.  Please cosponsor and publicly support this bill.
Why?   This bill has been introduced every session since 2011, its time to take it seriously, and begin the process toward nuclear disarmament.

HR. 4415  Declares that the US will never launch a nuclear first strike.
Introduced by Representative Adam Smith of Washington.
Why?   Simplest solution: no president, no congress, nobody should have the right to start a nuclear war.   This would reassure all the other nations that now fear us, that we will not initiate nuclear holocaust.

Here are the newest bills.
HR. 6840 and S. 3448, together known as The Hold the LYNE Act.  These would prohibit the development of new "yow yield" nuclear warheads, that are planned for submarines and tactical operations, greatly escalating the Arms Race.

S. 3169, Extending New START treaty compliance until 2026.    Without this, the treaty that successfully reduced both Russian and US nuclear arsenals will lapse, leaving no obligation to restrain either side from building new nuclear weapons, nor consider further reductions.

S. 3667, To prevent a nuclear arms race resulting from withdrawal from INF and other treaty compliance.

And just introduced (January 2019) by Representative Adam Smith and Senator Elizabeth Warren, new versions of No First Use.
S. 272   and HR. 921
